How can therapy help you?
If you have not been to therapy before, it can seem intimidating. YOU are the focus of therapy. Tending to your needs is the priority and at this point that might feel unfamiliar. It might even feel strange; you’ve been busy taking care of and prioritizing the needs of your baby that you’ve forgotten how to recognize and tend to your needs. This is where I step in. I have a gentle and genuine approach that will help you get back to taking care of yourself.
In therapy we will focus on identifying your needs which often includes looking at your behaviors and thinking patterns, identifying and FEELING your emotions, and looking at how relationship dynamics can be a source of support. Once we identify the issues, we bring awareness so that we can start taking actionable steps toward change. We will discuss communication skills, thoughts and behaviors, relationships, trauma and history, hopes for the future and much more. I want to emphasize that in therapy we also look at “what’s working”, as this helps us identify strengths and supports.
Services Offered
Pregnancy
While much attention has previously been drawn to postpartum mental health, we now have evidence that shows that for many women, symptoms start during pregnancy. Ensuring a healthy pregnancy is not just about your physical state; ensuring you tend to any difficulties in your emotional state and mental health is extremely important for your wellbeing as well as your baby’s.
Postpartum
Depression is not the only threat to your postpartum recovery. A range of issues can arise during this life transition. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are treatable and feeling better is possible. Additionally, postpartum support is also available for fathers who might be struggling during this time.
Immigration Evaluations
We conduct evaluations for U-Visa, VAWA, Extreme hardship, and asylum cases. We offer these services in English and/or Spanish depending on your needs.
Parenting Support
There is no way around it. Parenting can be hard! There is so much that goes into it and our current generation of parents is mindful of how they show up for their children. And while being more aware of the importance of how we show up for our children and how we parent, this often leads to feelings of guilt, confusion, and overwhelm as we try to get it right. Whether you are a mom or a dad struggling with your role as a parent, help is available.
Clinical Supervision
Clinical supervision is offered for provisionally licensed therapists seeking clinical hours toward licensure. Supervision is provided both in person and virtually. Options for individual or group supervision are available.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment that helps process traumatic events. This can range from birth trauma and other major traumatic events to less severe but highly distressing events that affect you on a personal level such as bullying, harassment, and losses.
